How to Live an Intentional Life

So many people live their lives doing the same mundane things day in and day out. They go through life almost numb to the things going on around them letting life just pass them by. Now don’t get me wrong some people like living live this way, but if you are at all like me that feeling drives me absolutely insane!!

So if you feel like this is you, and you are not happy with the situation you are in. Here are some ways you can change your situation and start living a life that is intentional.

This first thing you need to do if you want to live your life with intention is realize that your life is made up of a series of choices and yes while something might be out of your control. How we choose to react to those situations or the choices we make on a day to day basis put us where we are right now.

Living intentionally is a decision we have to make everyday. Every day brings new opportunities. Every day brings new choices. So make a commitment today to yourself that your are going to live your life everyday from this point on to its full potential and strive for the best everyday.

Examine Yourself

This is often very difficult for people, but in order to move forward. You need to dig deep and look at yourself. Figure out your weaknesses and insecurities. You then need to dig a little deeper what has fueled these. Are you afraid to try new things? Are you afraid to be a lone? Are you afraid you are going to fail? Why do you feel this way? Take a couple days to really meditate on this and figure it out. Don’t sensor yourself. Whatever comes to your mind write it down and truly think about it.

Make a Decision

Now that you have that all aired out come up with a plan to get over those weaknesses and insecurities. You don’t have to do anything crazy. Just do one small deed everyday to push your limits. Do something that makes you feel just a little bit uncomfortable. Every time you do this you will see you will get a little bit braver.

Imagine Your Ideal Day

When you wake up in the morning take a minute or two, and imagine what you want your day to look like. Want to go to the gym, picture yourself running a little faster or lifting a little heavier and hitting a new PR. If you have to write a report for work or for school. Picture yourself writing freely ideas flowing out effortlessly. What ever it is you want to accomplish for the day think about it. Think about how it feels. Try to envision all the details that you can. When your minute or two is up get out of bed and start your day!

Follow Through

The hardest thing to do with all of this is to follow through. No matter what your said you were going to do. DO IT! Make a promise to yourself and keep it. No matter how big or small it is. Most people say they are going to do something to themselves and then turn around and don’t do it. That action then turns into a habit. A bad one. Think about it if you tell yourself your are going to drink 64oz a day and then you don’t do it. Chances are the next day you wont do it either. You broke that promise to yourself once so now you can do it again. Then the next time you make a different promise to yourself because you did follow through with the first time and you’ve created this happen of not following through for yourself. Chance are you will have the same outcome. What happens if you do follow through though and you drink the 64oz water. The next day you can do it again and this time it will be easier. It will continue to get easier and easier the more you do it. Creating a positive habit as well as showing yourself you can follow through so when it comes to making that second promise. You know you can do that too.

Be Grateful

I don’t care what higher power your believe in or if yon don’t believe in any higher power at all. You need to think about all the wonderful things you have in your life that your are grateful for, and you need to take time out of your day too appreciate them. This can do wonders when it comes to making your day better and no matter what the situation is you can always figure out at least one thing to be grateful for.

Living an intentional life is something you have to work on everyday. Make positive choices, taking time to understand yourself. Do things that make you happy and make you a better person. Help others and listen. Dig deep. It is not going to be easy at first. You are probably going to have to work on it. Just follow through and refuse to let life pass you by. One day you are going to look back and wish you didn’t just put up with what was thrown at you instead of looking at opportunities that were presented and taking them.
