The biggest reason we fail to follow through with anything we plan to do is due to procrastination. Guilty as Charged here!

When we first make a plan and set our goals we see all the benefits of achieving those goals in the future. We get excited, but when we look at the present and see where we currently are we get discouraged. Why? Because we seek immediate gratification, and when we don’t get that we procrastinate.

People who are patient and are willing to wait for that gratification are more likely to achieve their goals and succeed. However if you are like me, this is ridiculously hard to do when you can get almost everything you want with just a click of a button.

So what are few ways we can beat procrastination?

Here are 3 Strategies:

Create your future actions

Make the choice now that you are going to control your future actions. Do something that will make it impossible to not follow through. (Ex. If you are trying to watch your calorie intake, but want to have a treat. Instead of buying a large carton of ice cream buy one that is only an individual serving. You are still satisfying your needs, but you are making a conscious decision so that your won’t overindulge.

Just Start

I know for me one of the hardest parts of doing anything is the very first step. For instance, if I wake up in the morning, but don’t want to get out of bed. If i don’t get up right away I have no problem laying there all day, but if I just get up and get moving then I am already on my way of doing all the things I need to do.

In other words…Suck it up buttercup and just get started!! You got this!

Set Your Intentions

When you have something you want to door a goal you want to achieve you need to set your intentions. You need to pick and exact time, place, and date. There have been a number of studies that have shown this is a very important determination or whether or not you will get things done. You can get a better idea about this from my previous post in this series: How to set Goals to Achieve Your Dreams
