Mt Chocorua-The Liberty Trail
I was so excited to finally have a 3 day weekend in the New England area and that there was absolutely no rain in the forecast! I made sure that I took full advantage. At 430am Saturday morning I woke up to meet my friend Alicia, and we headed to Mt Chocorua to hike the Liberty Trail!
Mt Chocorua is a 3490ft Summit in the White Mountains of New Hampshire that has many hiking trails that can get you to the top. The 3 most popular being the Piper Trail, Champney Falls Trail, and the Liberty Trail.
The Liberty Trail is a 7.8 mile trail and is called this because of the Jim Liberty Cabin which is located on the trail about a half a mile below the top on the summit. The cabin is available for free to hikers who want to camp on Mt. Chocorua for a night.
While the Liberty trail is considered to be one of the easier trails of the mountain. It is still challenging. There are sections of open rock that you need to use your hands to climb. Also, if the rocks are wet it makes it a bit more difficult.
The Liberty Trail can be done as an out and back trail which is what we decided to do, or you can add on the Brook Trail and make it a loop.
Mt. Chocorua was the first mountain I have had the opportunity to hike while in the New England area, and it did not disappoint. It is challenging but doable, and the views are absolutely incredible.
I am looking forward to climbing my next mountain!
Finally made it to the top of the Summit! Only a few bumps and bruises!
